Patient ID Cards During the Highmark Affiliation

Over the next few months, we will begin issuing new Highmark ID cards to your patients. These ID cards will help you determine whether your patients have moved onto the new Highmark system, or if they are still on our current “legacy” BCBSWNY system. We want to clarify these ID card changes for you so you can best coordinate coverage for your patients.

ID Cards for Patients on the Legacy System

If a patient is on our legacy system, their ID card will either have our old logo on it OR it will have the new Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York logo, but the back of the ID card will be shaded blue.

ID Cards for Patients on the Highmark System

For patients who have moved onto Highmark’s system, their cards will feature the new Highmark logo and both the front and the back of the ID card will be white.

Medicaid and Child Health Plus Patient

For Medicaid or Child Health Plus members, the back of the card will be grey. Amerigroup will continue to administer our Medicaid Managed Care and Child Health Plus programs on our behalf. Medicaid and Child Health Plus members will not move onto Highmark’s systems at this time.

Confirming Which System Your Patient is on with HEALTHeNET

Other than ID cards, you can also confirm which system your patient is on by running an Eligibility Transaction on HEALTHeNET. Once you submit your patient's information, the Eligibility Response page will tell you whether they are on our legacy system (BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York) or on Highmark's system (Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York).

  • Updated Drug Therapy Guidelines and Coverage Change for Remicade and Inflectra Available Online - November 2021
    Drug therapy guidelines for Cimzia, Entyvio, Ilumya, Infliximab, and Medicare Part B Step Therapy Management have been updated, will be posted on our website by December 1 and will be effective January 1, 2022. Beginning January 1, 2022, Remicade and the biosimilar Inflectra will be co-preferred on the medical benefit for all of your Highmark BCBSWNY commercial patients, including your self-insured ASO patients.
  • Highmark Medical Policy Updates Available Online – November 2021
    Highmark’s monthly Medical Policy Update newsletter will be available online on or before November 29. These changes may impact only your patients who have moved onto Highmark’s system (beginning November 1).
  • Maintaining Participation Status in Our Network
    Highmark BCBSWNY is required by New York State, NCQA, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to have accurate and updated provider information and credentialing applications on file. We want to remind you that you must update and attest to your CAQH credentialling application as changes occur, or at least every 90 days. If your CAQH profile is not maintained, you may be terminated from our network and required to submit a new enrollment application. Here, you can access CAQH online.
