Your primary doctor is important

It's important to have a primary doctor who can help you stay healthy and provide services when you are sick. With a primary doctor on file, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York can accurately process your claims and help you get the care you deserve. Whether you are choosing a primary doctor for the first time or need to change your current one, it's easy to do.

Add or change a Primary Doctor in 3 easy steps!

Number 1

Login to your member account, then enter a provider name, specialty, or browse by category. You can also refine your search by location, distance, gender, and more. Your results will be displayed by distance, starting with the providers closest to you.

Number 2

In the results, eligible Primary Doctors will be labeled as a PCP. If you're sure this is the doctor for you, click on “Select as Your PCP.”

Confirm your selection by clicking OK.  If you have dependents, you can then choose whether to select this doctor as your own, or for a dependent.*

Login and use our Find a Doctor tool to begin your search for a primary doctor. You can search by location, distance, gender, and more! Once you find a doctor, select them as your primary doctor.

Who was my last doctor?
Using the My Doctor Tool on your member dashboard, you can see your current or past Primary Doctor for you and eligible dependents.

Can I choose a primary doctor for dependents under 18-years-old?
Yes, the account's subscriber can choose and change a dependent's primary doctor.

Can I choose a primary doctor for dependents over 18-years-old?
No, dependents over the age of 18 will need choose a primary doctor through their online account. To register for an secure online account, click here.
