Buying a home in Western New York
From waterfront condominiums to Victorian cottages and mansions, bright homes in the suburbs and farmhouses in the hills outside of the city, there's a home for everyone.
Our home values have steadily risen, too, making real estate a solid, yet affordable investment. In fact, with regional median housing prices around $120,000, many people also purchase seasonal vacation properties in ski country and the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, all of which are within an hour's drive.
Arts and culture, dining and nightlife
One of the remarks you'll often hear is how culturally rich and diverse our region is, especially compared to similarly sized or larger cities.
We are home to several nationally and internationally acclaimed museums, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and the Castellani Museum. For more information visit the art section of Visit Buffalo Niagara.
For architecture buffs, our wealth of historic residential and commercial buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright, H.H. Richardson, Louis Sullivan and more will show you why, year after year, Western New York is on the must-see list of places to go. For more information visit the architecture section of Visit Buffalo Niagara.
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra provides live orchestral music while theaters like Shea's Buffalo (known for Broadway hits) and the Irish Classical Theater bring first-rate performances to the stage, while Theater of Youth is a wonder for the kids.
Our Buffalo Zoological Gardens, located in Frederick Law Olmsted-designed Delaware Park, is the country's second-oldest zoo, but its ongoing renovations bring it to the leading edge of zoological education and exhibition.
Western New York’s two most popular professional sports teams are the Buffalo Bills (NFL) and the Buffalo Sabres (NHL).
We’re also home to the Buffalo Bandits (NLL) lacrosse team, and the Buffalo Bisons, our AAA baseball team (and AAA affiliate to the Toronto Blue Jays).
Don't be fooled by stories about Buffalo winters, our four-season climate makes us the ideal location for sports and recreation enthusiasts year-round.
Activities include sailing, skiing (water and snow), swimming, cycling, fishing (including ice fishing), windsurfing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, hunting, jet skiing...and when the wind is right, people even surf Lake Erie.
