The 2016 National Nutrition Month® theme, "Savor the Flavor of Eating Right,” encourages everyone to take time to enjoy food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to our lives.

By making informed food choices, it’s easy to create healthy meals that include taste and nutrition. Finding foods that fit your needs, traditions, health concerns, and tastes will help you successfully maintain a healthy diet.

  • Find healthy foods that you enjoy eating. This will make it easier to stick with meals and snacks that are good for you.
  • Make healthy eating part of your day – whatever kind of day that is. Everyone has different needs and schedules; make a plan that fits your lifestyle.
  • Build a healthy plate – make half your plate fruits and vegetables, add lean protein, make at least half of your grains whole grains, and include low-fat or fat-free dairy, such as milk or yogurt
  • Sound fitness habits go hand-in-hand with healthy eating habits, so remember to include daily exercise.

Celebrate National Nutrition Month by taking a walk or going for a bike ride after a healthy family dinner.
