Buffalo, NY — BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Kaleida Health announce a contractual extension of their existing agreement that ensures BlueCross BlueShield’s membership will continue to have access to Kaleida Health’s facilities and services.

For more than 160 years, the hospitals and health care facilities of Kaleida Health have been providing quality care to the communities comprising the eight counties of Western New York. Kaleida Health is the largest healthcare provider and the largest private employer in the area, and a major teaching affiliate of the University at Buffalo. They are affiliated with Great Lakes Health System of WNY, the entity integrating Kaleida Health, ECMC and the University at Buffalo.

BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, as the region’s leading health plan, continues to offer the most comprehensive hospital and physician network in the region to their membership locally, as well as nationally through the Blue Cross Blue Shield “Blue Card” program.

“We are pleased to extend our agreement with our partners at BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York.  As our industry continues to move from volume-based reimbursement to value-based care, it is important that we have a collaborative relationship with the region’s leading health plan.  Together, we will continue to find ways to improve quality of care, accessibility and affordability for the patients that we serve,” stated Kaleida Health President and CEO Jody L. Lomeo.

“We know that healthcare costs, quality and access remain priorities for our members.  By extending our current agreement with Kaleida Health, it allows for a greater level of certainty and stability around those costs, particularly for our employer community.  Efficiencies in service delivery, enhanced value-based care and support for Kaleida’s physician network are all areas of mutual alignment.  I want to publicly express appreciation for Kaleida’s willingness to negotiate this contract extension in a timely manner, and to recognize the tone and tenor of the negotiations,” stated BlueCross BlueShield President and CEO David W. Anderson.
