The Ultimate Father’s Day Gift

June 03, 2022

Your health is far too important to put on the back burner. This Father’s Day, give yourself the gift of health.  According to a recent Cleveland Clinic survey, nearly two-thirds of respondents said they avoid going to the doctor if possible and 37 percent said they withhold information from their doctors.

Common excuses include:

  •  “Why should I see a doctor? I feel fine.”
    •   Many conditions such as heart disease and cancer may not have symptoms at first, but a few simple tests can catch the condition early, resulting in better treatment outcomes.
  • “It will get better on its own.
    • When it comes to your health, ignoring an issue can result in significantly different results as in the case of skin cancer and diabetes.
  • “It’s embarrassing.”
    • Health care providers are used to discussing delicate subjects and can provide treatment options to eliminate or improve many embarrassing conditions.
  • “I don’t like tests."
    • Most people do not like tests, but sometimes there are alternatives available as in the case of colorectal cancer screening.  Those who do not want to have a colonoscopy can opt for an at-home stool-based test instead.
  • “I’m busy.”
    • If you are busy now, imagine how behind you would be if you come down with a preventable illness or disease.
