One of the 100 Healthiest Workplaces in America, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York launched a free employee bike loan program with an inaugural employee bike ride this morning at their company headquarters in downtown Buffalo.
The program was a result of a call from employees to be able to navigate the surrounding downtown area in a more efficient and healthier manner than the standard traffic-encompassed car ride. The region’s leading health plan has launched many member health and wellness programs by testing them first with their own employees including “The Good Life,” “Lose to Win,” “Maintain Don’t Gain,” and “Move to Win.”
“This program provides new opportunities for our employees to get out and explore all the great things happening here in downtown Buffalo,“ said Dave Anderson, President and CEO, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York. “As one of the healthiest workplaces in America, we want to set an example for our community.”
Employees will have the opportunity to use one of 20 BCBS-branded bikes at any time starting on Wednesday, June 18 from 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. to run errands, grab lunch or simply to enjoy a casual summer bike ride.
Employees gain access to the bikes by handing in their company-issued ID badge at the building’s security station. In exchange employees are given a helmet, bike lock key, a map of the surrounding downtown area and basic safety tips. Employees are free to use the bikes as long as needed during breaks or lunch and are offered at a first-come first-serve basis.
