Since 2013, Meals on Wheels for Western New York has participated in a number of worksite wellness programs, including Maintain Don't Gain, Know Your Numbers, Five + Fit, and Under Pressure. Through participation in these programs, in addition to health and wellness seminars and events like National Walk at Lunch Day, they have increased their awareness of important health numbers including blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol. One recent weight-loss program resulted in more than 75% of employees losing weight over the course of 8 weeks.
Meals on Wheels employees now regularly look for ways to increase healthy activities while at work. In order to increase activity over the cold winter months in Western New York, employees began incorporating a daily walking video into their exercise routine until the weather broke to walk outside. BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York supports their health and wellness efforts with programs, challenges, and workshops to increase awareness and activity among employees.
