Health Plans from BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York are available on POS and PPO Platforms. Futhermore, we offer plans that are compatible with a flexible spending account (FSA), a health reimbursement account (HRA), or a health savings account (HSA). These accounts are administered through a separate company.

Our managed care approach provides your employees with many plan options in order to meets the needs of your diverse employee base. POS members will choose a PCP who provides and coordinates the best care possible with lower out-of-pocket costs.  Members also have the added ability to seek care directly from any network or non-network provider without a referral. We are focused on providing the best service, security, and stability for the more than 800,000 members we serve through a local network of more than 11,000 doctors, hospitals, and allied health professionals.

Away From Home Care® provides peace of mind*

As an added POS benefit, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York members have access to health care benefits from participating BlueCross and/or BlueShield plans in many states and the District of Columbia. With a guest membership through Away From Home Care, employees and dependents have coverage through another participating BlueCross and/or BlueShield’s plan when they are away from home and our service area.

Guest memberships are helpful for:

  • Students – children attending school out-of-state
  • Families Apart – families residing in different service areas
  • Long-Term Travelers – long-term work assignment or retirees with dual residences

Our PPO plans are designed to meet the distinct needs of employees while controlling overall benefit costs for groups.  Your employees will have the freedom to choose and get the most out of their plans from a diverse range of healthcare providers and services without waiting for prior approvals.

Funding Options

An HSA is a pre-tax account used with qualified high-deductible health plans to pay for services subject o the deductible. The account is funded by the employer, the employee, or both, but is owned solely by the employee. If the employee should change employers, the HSA remains with the employee. An HSA must be paired with a qualifying high-deductible health plan. Please contact your Account Executive to determin if an HSA is available for your plan.

An HRA is an account that your employees use to pay for approved, qualified medical expenses(typically copays and expenses subject to their deductibles). The account is funded solely by the employer, the funds can roll over each year, and there are no contribution limites unless the employer sets one. An HRA account can be combined with any of our commercial group plans.

An FSA is an account that your employees can use to pay for eligible health and dependent care expenses. The account is funded by the employer , the employee, or both. It will not roll over each year, which means the employee must use the funds in the FSA account or the funds will be lost at the end of the year. An FSA account can be combined with any of our commercial group plans.
