March: Colorectal Cancer Awareness

No Excuses. Screen for Life.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States. But, it can be prevented. Screening helps find precancerous polyps so they can be removed before they turn into cancer. Screening can also find colorectal cancer early, when treatment is most effective. If you're age 50 or older - don't wait. Talk to your doctor and get screened.

Research has also shown people with certain risk factors have a higher chance of developing colon cancer under age 50. Talk to your doctor to learn if you are at risk.

You may also reduce your risk of developing colorectal cancer or other diseases by:

  • Eating a balanced diet high in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains
  • Exercising regularly
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Quitting smoking
  • Limiting alcohol consumption
